Founder of AFK Sistema for about 14 years worked in manufacturing companies in the chemical industry. Today he is engaged in implementing socially important initiatives and business projects outside the financial and industrial group.
Yevtushenkov Vladimir’s biography
Date and place of birth of the businessman – September 25, 1948, village of Kamenshchina, Smolensk Region. Mr. Yevtushenkov’s parents were rural workers engaged in milk production at a local agricultural enterprise.
Vladimir Petrovich was able to get two higher educations at Moscow universities. In 1973, he graduated from the largest educational and research center in the field of chemical technology – Mendeleev Moscow Chemical Technology Institute. He received an engineering degree there. Seven years later, he also graduated from the most prestigious Soviet university, Lomonosov Moscow State University, with a degree in economics.
He conducted research activities. In 1986 he defended his master’s thesis on “Organizational and Economic Improvement of Plastic Engineering”. In 2001 he became the Doctor of Economics.
Career of Yevtushenkov Vladimir
Mr. Yevtushenkov began his career in 1973, immediately after graduating from the institute. As an engineer-technologist, he was employed as a foreman at the Dzerzhinsk Sverdlov Plant. By 1975, he was already working as a site manager.
He continued his career with another company in the chemical industry – the Karacharovsky Plastics Plant, based in Moscow (in 1982, it was renamed the Polymerbyt Research and Production Association). He took up the position of head of one of the workshops. A little later, he came up with his innovative idea for improving casting technology. He received the Lenin Komsomol Prize for outstanding production achievement and was promoted in his career. He worked as chief engineer and the first deputy general director of the company until 1987.
The next stage in his professional development was a significant business project undertaken by Mr. Yevtushenkov in 1993. With his partners, he established AFK Sistema, an investment company that began investing in acquisitions from such sectors as telecommunications, construction, and the hotel business.
At present, the company’s portfolio investments are widely diversified and concentrated in 15 sectors of the economy. At the same time, Vladimir Yevtushenkov no longer participates in the governing and strategic planning of AFK Sistema. He is engaged in implementing other projects – primarily those of great social significance.
Yevtushenkov Vladimir and public activities
Among Mr. Yevtushenkov’s initiatives is the set up of a charitable foundation that has operated in many Russian regions since 2004. With the businessman’s suggestion, a large-scale campaign #CountryWithoutVirus was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to which more than two dozen medical institutions in 10 regions of the country received help. More than 1.7 billion roubles were allocated for this purpose.
