Christopher Julius Rock, aka Chris Rock, was born on 7 February 1965, in South Carolina. A few years back, his parents shifted to the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Later, his parents again changed their locality and settled in the working-class area of Bedford–Stuyvesant.

His mother, Rosalie, used to work as a teacher and also believed in helping others. On the other hand, his father, Julius Rock, used to work full-time as a truck driver. And in his spare time, he used to work as a newspaper delivery man. Unfortunately, in 1988, his father died after an ulcer surgery.

Chris is the eldest child among six boys and one girl. So being the eldest in the family, he had many responsibilities. Charles Ledell Rock is the oldest paternal half-brother of Chris, but unfortunately, he died in 2006 after suffering from alcoholism.
